Chennai: The Indian election commission (ECI) on Thursday announced his decision to hold the Bypoll to fill two casual vacancies at Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu.
Bypoll will be held on October 4, 2021.
Both vacancies emerged after the resignation of members of Aidmk K P Munusamy and R Vaithilil, both of which were selected as the Tamil Nadu assembly in the recent election.
With DMK who came to power with the majority of themselves and held almost two thirds of the majority along with their allies at home, the party would plant both seats.
The party count in the upper house will rise to 10.
According to a statement from ECI, formal notifications for Bypoll will be issued on September 15 and the last date for nominations will be September 22.
While nominated supervision will take place the next day (September 23), the last date for nominees will be September 27.
Both Munusamy and VaithiliRam submitted resignation on May 7, 2021 after being elected to the State Assembly in the state selection.
While the term VaitHililam will end on June 29, 2022, the term Munusamy only ended on April 2, 2026.
