The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh’s residence in Nagpur on Friday morning.
The raid has been conducted in connection with the alleged money laundering case in an alleged bribery case.
On May 11, ED had filed a criminal case under the anti-money laundering law against Deshmukh after studying a CBI FIR.
The ED team reached Nagpur from Mumbai on Thursday night.
Today morning, a team from Mumbai with the help of local ED officials raided Deshmukh’s residence at GPO Chowk and the homes of his close associates, reported Maharashtra Times.
Reacting to the development, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya tweeted, “ED raided CM Uddhav Thackeray’s #Vasooli Minister #AnilDeshmukh residence.
I am sure in few days, he will be in Jail.
Another VASOOLI Minister Anil Parab will follow Anil Deshmukh.” The CBI is also carrying out a preliminary inquiry, followed by filing a regular case.
In his letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh had alleged that Deshmukh had indulged in “malpractices” and asked to suspend Mumbai Police officer Sachin Waze to collect Rs 100 crores every month.
Waze was arrested in March in connection with the National Investigation Agency’s (NIA) probe into the case of recovery of an explosives-laden SUV near Mukesh Ambani’s house in Mumbai and the subsequent murder of Thane businessman Mansukh Hiren.
Deshmukh had resigned from his post after the Bombay High Court directed the CBI to initiate an enquiry within 15 days into allegations levelled against him by Singh.
