Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) will occupy the premature real estate in one of the most expensive Mumbai office buildings owned by a politician.
CEEJAY House in Worli, designed by architect Noshir Talati and built by the NCP Pressur Patel company, the Millennium developer, will be the new address of Ed.
The body is in the process of shifting one of the zonal offices on two floors of Ceejay House which was once a drug smuggler Iqbal Memon, aka Iqbal Mirchi.
The building was built after Amalgamating Plot Mirchi where he used to run Pub Wharf Fisherman.
The upstairs CEEJAY House consists of the residence of Patel Pressurs spread over 35,000 square feet.
Ed had submitted an application before the court, asked him to confiscate 15 Mirchi family properties, including two floors of Ceejay House.
Collective worth of this property is more than Rs 100 Crore.
Recently, Ed took over two floors, (a 9,000 second carpet area on the third floor and 5,000 square meters on the fourth floor).
Ed administrative staff have visited the place for the past few days and made the necessary changes before shifting their offices.
A source said, “After the foreclosure, it becomes a government asset.
Because there are options where the affected parties can challenge the sequence of final seizure in the period of time given, Ed does not auction property, but utilizing it as well as possible.” Ed has an office Regional in the rental place of Kaiser-e-Hind building in Ballard Estate.
Mirchi, through partners, has sold its rights to a closed discotheque, Fisherman Wharf, to Patel’s company.
Millennium Developers have signed an agreement with the wife of Mirchi Hajra, and two Son Asif and Junaid together on November 4, 2004, where they were allocated 9,000 regions of square carpets on the third and 5,000 square meters on the fourth floor.
Junaid is a minor when the agreement is signed.
Ed was investigating money laundering cases against the Mirchi family and former DHFL promoters, Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan.
This case is based on fraud transactions related to three buildings in Worli.
