Coimbatore: City-based education and industrialist C R Swaminathan died of a heart attack in the city on Tuesday morning.
He is 74 years old.
He survived his wife’s wife.
The youngest of nine siblings, Swaminathan learned MBA at PSG College of Technology.
In 1971, he joined the PSG Institute of Industry as an assistant sales manager.
He was appointed as administration officer of the PSG Institution in 1978 and was promoted as the main education officer in 1985.
He also served as president of several industrial bodies and other organizations, including the Association of South Technical Manufacturing (SMA), Coimbatore Management Association (CMA)), Coimbatore Productivity Council (BPK), Scientific and Industrial Testing and Research Center (Sitarc), Coimbatore Industrial Infrastructure Association (Coinia), and Rotary Club of Coimbatore East.
He was chosen as President of the Institute of Indian Foundrymen and the Association of Indian Machinery Manufacturers.
He also serves various trusteship and educational institutions as a member of the government council, and is the founding secretary of the Codissia Trade Fair Center.
He is one of the Global Congkan’s forum supervisors, which represents seven Western districts.
The South Region CII Chair C K Ranganathan said Swaminathan was a visionary leader and contributed to the development of the South India industry.
“He brought a new dimension to the partnership of the Industrial Institute in the southern region with his knowledge and expertise in higher education and industry research,” he said.
Swaminathan has also worked for several public causes by joining Trust.
He is the founder – President of the Coimbatore resident awareness association (RAAC).
He has represented Siruthuli, who works in protecting waterbodies and increases greenery.
R Veendran, Secretary Raac said Swaminathan had worked closely with City Corporation in handling solid waste management and Swaphh Bharat’s superior program.
