MANGALURU: Educational institutions in the coastal districts, including kindergarten, are encouraging its faculties and non-teaching staff to get vaccinated against Covid-19.
Some private institutions have made it mandatory for teaching staff to get vaccinated to conduct classes.
Recently Alva’s Education Foundation, Moodbidri organised a paid mass vaccination drive for its teaching and non-teaching staff.
Dr Mohan Alva, chairman of the institution told TOI that so far hundreds of their college staff, excluding medical/paramedical, received their first doses.
“Our aim is to vaccinate even their family members.
This will give more safety.
Even college security personnel, janitors, gardeners, wardens and others have also been vaccinated.
In the coming days, institutions will allow only those who are partially/fully vaccinated for offline classes.
Besides, we are also encouraging students to take vaccination,” he explained.
Mangalore University is planning to send a circular to 207 colleges under its jurisdiction regarding vaccination.
Varsity vice-chancellor PS Yadapadithaya said he has been requesting all college heads to vaccinate all teaching/ non-teaching staff.
“We will collect data of all those who are not vaccinated and request the district administration conduct a special drive.”

A senior head of a private college said that 60%of their staff have received first dose and some, full dose.
“We have been repeatedly requesting staff to get vaccinated.
The parents insist and feel their children are safe when we are vaccinated,” shared Shwetha KT of Anirveda Resource Centre for Psychological Well-Being.
DK deputy director of public instruction Malleswamy told TOI that only vaccinated teachers in the district will be deployed to conduct the upcoming SSLC examination.
“The district requires about 1,500-2,000 teachers to conduct examinations,” he said.
On the other hand, teachers between 18-44 years claimed that vaccines are not available.
