Efforts to help people who lost breadwinner to Covid-19

Coimbatore: 2,297 people have died so far in the district due to Covid’s related complications.
Many of them are the only livelihood of their family and have left the responsibility that requires support from the state government.
The District Administration reaches these families under the Mahala Mahala Thittam project.
Good officials have prepared these people’s databases through the Ministry of Health and Statistics, and the process of identifying more people ongoing.
Need support because they need support from their close relatives or need to be shifted to children’s homes.
So, 11 children lost their parents to Covid-19, said child protection officer, R Sundar.
“This includes several children who are raised by a single parent.
While five children receive Rs 5 lakh from the funds of the Minister of Tamil Nadu, we make arrangements for others to receive compensation.
In addition to compensation, their caregivers will also receive Rs 3,000 per month to care for They, “he said.
“None of the children are sent to children’s homes because they have relatives to take care of them.” As many as 300 parents lost their breadwinner to Covid, said an official at the District Social Welfare Office.
“They are looking for compensation from the government.
Most of them do not want to shift to old age,” he said.
