MILAN: US climate envoy John Kerry said on Saturday that Egypt was chosen as a candidate to host the COP27 UN Climate Conference because it took place next year.
Every year, a country that represents a different world region taking over the presidency of the Conference of the Parties (COP) and the meeting tends to host in the country.
Last month Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi officially expressed his country’s interest in the host of the COP27 summit.
This year’s COP26 edition will be held at Glasgow, Scotland, in November.
