Pune: eight robbery suspects were arrested around Thursday afternoon, five of them after their SUV was intercepted by the police in Urse Toll Plaza.
Four other suspects, who were left behind in another SUV, took U-turn at The Toll Plaza, almost ran over a police officer, and drove on the side of the wrong toll road to Mumbai.
They were chased by the police for more than one kilometer before they left the vehicle and started running towards the hilly field along the toll road.
The police managed to capture three.
Active search for the fourth man.
“Constable Shubham Kadam from the anti-Goonda squad we suffered a hip joint dislocation, in addition to injury to his legs and hands when he tried to stop the SUV from taking a freeway.
He had been treated in a private hospital in Thergaon for care,” Prashant Amrutkar, Assistant Commissioner Branch of Police Crime Pimpri Chinchwad, to Ti.
The action began at around 11 in the morning when the Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch team put a trap around Urse Toll Plaza after information from their colleagues in Yavatmal that nine suspects, wanted a medical consignment of RS25 Lakh’s robbery from the truck more than a month ago, moving towards Pune from Mumbai in two SUVs.
Yavatmal police have submitted the SUV description, in addition to notifying Pimpri Chinchwad police that the nine member gang came from Madhya Pradesh.
Apart from Urse Toll Plaza, the police have put a trap at Somatne Phata at Pune-Mumbai Highway, Mhalunge and Chakan.
