Freetown: a massive explosion at a gas station in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, killed at least 80 people, burning people in the car and streets nearby, a rescue worker and nurses said Saturday.
“We restored 80 bodies from the accident site last night with our ambulance,” rescue workers from the Red Cross told AFP, adding rescue operations on Saturday morning.
A nurse at the hospital where the victims were confirmed to confirm the number of dead people to AFP, added that he also tended to many women, men and children with “serious injury”.
According to witnesses, the accident occurred when the vehicle caught fire at the gas station after an accident on the road.
The fire then spread in the area, burned people in the car and on the nearest road.
