Election literacy club to begin at all Maharashtra schools

Nagpur: All schools and junior colleges in the state, regardless of the council they are affiliated, have been asked to start the ‘Election Literacy Club’ (ELC) on their campus for STD IX-XII students, with the aim of making it more aware of the election process.
The State Government issued Government Resolution (GR) on Monday, stating that this was an initiative by the Indian Election Commission (ECI) and at their request, all educational institutions that qualified in Maharashtra must comply with.
ELC will be a platform to involve school students through interesting activities and direct experience to murder them about their election rights, and familiarize them with the process of selecting registration and voting.
The ECI website describes it as a place where “learns to meet fun”.
ECI said, “Activities and games are designed to stimulate and motivate students, provoke them to think and ask questions.
Through ELC, ECI aims to strengthen the culture of election participation among young and future voters.” There are around 25 activities like that and six matches , which has been carefully designed to provide special learning that will help them become ‘vote empowerment (candidates).
In each school there will be a committee to oversee the implementation of the ELC program.
Two students selected from each class will be part of the school level committee.
These students later, among themselves, choose a president and vice president for the committee.
The Nodal Officer of this Committee (also called ‘Mentor’) will be a teacher who has experience from the election process.
All academic materials and resources to implement the ELC program will be provided by the District Authority, which is also tasked with doing polls.
The committee will also help STD XII students who qualify to choose, to get their names registered in the selection roll.
All schools must complete students’ elections and then the formation of the school level committee on October 21.
On October 26, the name and contact details of all members of the Committee and Nodal (Teachers) must be sent to the authorities by e-mail.
For the Nagpur district, the email ID is dydeonagpur@gmail.com.
