Electric Board Kerala Moots Hiking Rates Rates 1 Per Unit

Thiruvananthapuram: Minister of Electricity K Krishnankutty on Monday announced that the State Electricity Council of Kerala (KSEB) has decided to look for rising power rates 1 per unit.
“KSEB cannot advance without an increase in tariffs, which have been late for a long time The minister’s reaction came after KSEB submitted a tariff petition to the state electricity regulatory commission here on Monday.
According to sources, the council has been looking for an increase in 1.5 annual Rs at the power rate rate for a period of five years.
Because there are no tariffs sought and received during the 2021 election year, the council expects the regulatory commission to allow rising rs 1 per unit for the current year.
In general, the increase in annual tariffs in the state is limited to less than 50 Paise.
The board expects tariff income by Rs 2,800 Crore in the first year and the next 1,800 crore Hospital.
The proposed increase Re 1 per unit is expected to flow around 20% increase in domestic consumer bi-monthly power bills.
The Regulatory Commission will make a decision about the tariff petition after public hearing.
The Board has also presented a new industrial support scheme to the power regulator to sell excess power, now sold outside the country, to industry in subsidized state.
The capital investment proposed from the council for the control period, five years, is RS 28,000 Crore.
This includes the distribution distribution sector scheme project funded by the Central Government worth RS 13,000 Crore.
Although the 8,000 crore RS scheme for the deployment of smart meters in the place of consumers is also part of the capital investment program, the same, however, is not forwarded to the tariff for now.
“The increase in effective capital during the last control period will only only rs 3,000 crore,” said the source of the board.
