New Delhi: Mercedes-Benz India continues to be the only manufacture of luxury cars and sells diesel-powered cars here.
A top company official on the sidelines of the full retail launch of the future said that the road to electrification in India will be determined by the law, customer preferences and manufacturer’s commitment to sustainability.
With EQC, Mercedes-Benz is the first luxury car maker to introduce a full-electric car in India.
Globally, the German company has invested 40 billion euros, which aims to be electrically prepared at the end of the decade.
“EQC has received an extraordinary response.
We welcome new players.
This is a good sign, and encourages us to immediately introduce an electric car,” said Santosh Iyer, Vice President of the sale and marketing of Mercedes-Benz India.
“We are not the people who decide,” said Iyer on the fate of Diesel Powertrain.
“The transition to electrification will be led by customer legislation and preferences.
We are committed to sustainability and ready to serve more electric cars as a maturing market,” said Iyer.
Mercedes-Benz India on Friday introduced a ‘retail future’ (ROTF) business model, which empowers the company to sell its car directly to customers.
The beta phase ROTF was launched in June and has received 1,700 customer ordering units so far.
Mercedes-Benz India claims ROTF will set the best price, offering national stock visibility and complete transparency in the purchase process.
This process will cause zero stock and there is no obligation for the franchise partner.
ROTF will be processed through online or offline mode and the transaction is a 5-step method: quotes, order orders, finalization bookings, invoices and handover.
German car makers have pumped 1,700 crore Rs to implement ROTF and sweep the order of 1,700 units worth RS 850 Crore so far.
