Elephant experts at Gadchiroli today, Open Collaring Options

Nagpur: After the Minister of Chief Justice Uddhav Thackeray took a serious awareness of the elephant who entered Gadchiroli, the expert team would visit the tribal district along with the Head of the Sunil Limaye Forest Conservator (Wildlife) on Monday.
The 18-22 elephant herd is moving in the South Murumgaon Gadchiroli and the South Dhanora forest range.
Elephants have re-entered the area after 300 years.
The herd is close to Lake Munjalgondi in South Dhaya, where there are good animal feed in the form of bamboo and grass.
According to forest officials, this herd began in 2014 in Odisha.
Limaye said, “We have sought assistance from the foundation of Stripes and Green Earth (Sage) in West Bengal, working on elephant conservation.
One of the goals this visit is to identify suitable areas where elephants can remain uninterrupted and people are also not hurt .
Development of the capacity of the staff are also on the agenda.
“Sage work in Sanjay-Dubri Tiger Reserve and now at kotma Range of Annupur about the human-animal conflict, and are training field staff on the identification, body language, etc.
mover management.
“We have also been seeking help from the Ankit Police Supervisory Gadchiroli Goyal collector and the Sanjay Meena district for security and compensation, if some houses are damaged.
Being a rice harvest season, the plants are cooked and we are in the process of paying compensation for crop damage by elephants,” said Limaye.
PCCF added, “I also invite wildlife NGOs that have radio-collared elephants in Chhattisgarh as part of the mitigation of human conflicts.
One of the elephants in his previously collared flock and the collar has fallen now.
We have saved the option to shine open elephants and invite NGOs, If you want to take such an operation.
“The day before, the Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde has identified Caadra Wildlife Sanctuary as an alternative site for elephants.
However, the Gadchiroli Forest Conservator (CF) Kishore Malekar said, “Chaprala is a teak forest and is not suitable for elephants.” Meanwhile, the three members of the Sage Foundation led by Samelik Sengupta arrived in the city and will go to Gadchiroli with Limaye on Monday.
Anand Shinde’s other elephant expert from Mumbai, who had previously handled a prisoners’ elephant in Tadoba and Kamlapur at Gadchiroli, had camped at Gadchiroli.
During the discussion with the Limaye, SAGE NGOs also tended to come up with suggestions for installing early warning devices, both in the village or entry point of elephant forests.
The previous NGO has implemented a GSM-based prototype in Sanjay-Dubri in Chhattisgarh.
This technique works on solar energy and sends a warning to a cellphone, also produces sound hooter anywhere anyway.
Sengupta said, “Paddy was cultivated at Gadchiroli in a great way.
The plants were ripe and it was one of the favorite foods of elephants.
Flocks can remain until the end of winter and summer onset, and maybe try to migrate towards Mahanadi in Chhattisgarh.
Flocks can return Next year with more numbers.
This might stay long if alternative and water fodder is available, and as long as it’s not disturbed.
