The 45-year-old mahout was attacked by elephant camp at the Kozhikamuthi elephant camp near the top slip on Monday.
He suffered a fracture and was treated at a private hospital in Pollachi.
The injured Mahout was identified as Jayachandran.
Officials Department of Forest said the elephant Ramu attacked Mahout when he tried to approach the animal.
Officials said the elephant could be in a state of Moth, periodic conditions in male elephants characterized by very aggressive behavior and accompanied by a large increase in reproductive hormones.
Jayachandran suffered a fracture in his ribs and jaws.
His condition was said to be stable.
