Coimbatore: A male elephant around 15 years old died on Wednesday in the range of Perennickeepalayam in the district due to illness, the word forest officials said that they received information that a male elephant moved towards the land of the Patta in Thiramalai in the morning.
Elephants entered the land of a farmer identified as K MARMAM, which is located about 700 meters from Forest Reserve and remains silent for a long time.
When the forest officials visited the place, they found that the elephant was not healthy.
Forest officers tried to feed elephants with fruits, but Jumbo could not eat it.
Immediately, they told the veterinary team.
Veterinarians from Kovanur come to that place and provide care to help elephants recover.
“But the elephant did not respond to care and died in the afternoon despite trying to save the animal,” said a forest officer.
He said that a postmortem would be done to find out the cause of death.
The officer said that the elephant migration season had begun and many elephants from Kerala moved towards Karnataka through Perinakenpalayam, Mettupalayam and Bhavanisagar.
This elephant can be one of those migrated, he said.
