Patna: Railways has developed a “assembly area” for passengers at Patna Junction with the only purpose of evacuating them safely if an emergency occurs.
The concept of the assembly area at the intersection of Patna is the first of its kind in East Central Railway (ECR).
Head of Public Relations ECR (CPRO) official Rajesh Kumar said the assembly area had been developed at both ends of the intersection – Mahavir Temple and Cargyaiya.
At the end of the Mahavir Temple, the assembly area has been developed near the train booking office.
“The move is needed because the passenger footsteps are getting higher at Patna Junction,” he added.
“Certain areas have been intended as a meeting point for passengers at both ends of the intersection of Patna.
They can easily be evacuated from a busy platform to a safe meeting point where sitting sitting will be made for passengers stranded,” said CPRO, adding at least 500 Passengers can be evacuated at both ends of the emergency intersection.
The emergency shelter or the meeting point functions at New Delhi airport and Bengaluru.
“Thanks to the facility, passengers can be evacuated safely if an earthquake occurs, fire or invades,” added CPRO.
Meanwhile, the Railways disaster management team has also developed an emergency plan to examine any unward incident at the train station where high passenger flow, said CPRO.
