Chennai: More than 150 roads in the city continued to be flooded on Saturday after the rain fell on Thursday.
Vehicles crawl in King Mannar Silai, P T Rajan Salai and Ramasamy Silai in K Nagar.
Road 40 feet of Mahalingapuram, North Usman Road, G n Chetty Road, Kodambakkam’s Aziz Nagar, continues to face water stagnation.
In many areas such as L B roads in Thiruvanmiyur and T Nagar, waste waste and stagnation is a health hazard.
Encrimination in several roads by shops and vendors prevents rain water rain flows into storm waterways.
N Vishwanathan, a resident of K K Nagar, told Ti that in Kamarajar Salai around three stores had placed bricks and sand on the road that blocked all waterways.
“How water goes into the water channel if the store blocks it.
In Ramasamy Silai, a temple has blocked the ditch,” he said.
He has collected a lot of complaints with GCC but no action.
“Such encroachment has hampered the appearance and in the case of the MGR market where several stores built in waterways have made them useless,” he said.
Larger Chennai corporate officials said they removed encroachment, but most cases were trapped in litigation.
“We release the encroachment we can.
However, we will continue legally,” said an official.
Regarding the stagnation of waste, residents have raised complaints with metrowater and civil bodies.
Mahesh R, a resident of Thiruvanmiyur, told Toi that the stench of rented on the road was unbearable.
In T Nagar, when the rain slowly recedes night, waste stagnation is the main problem.
Civil officials said they had worked with Metrowater and had provided complaints to them.
“We have pointed at least four officials for each zone to monitor flood control work.
If it doesn’t rain tomorrow, all the way will be free of inundation,” said an official.
The Civic body continues to use pumps in 270 locations.
“We will put the pump for a week and hope that rainfall will decrease,” said an official.
At least 15 trees have fallen in the last two days and two subways continue to be under water.
The Civic’s body has protected around 167 people including 28 children and 200 food packages distributed.
Of the 2,500 complaints of water logging received in the last two days, around 600 had been cleaned.
