LONDON: Twenty-four people rushed to hospitals in the British Hampshire Regency after they were exposed to poisonous smoke at the hotel spa, according to media reports on Wednesday.
General Manager of Solent Hotel and Spa in Whiteley, George French told Standard Night Newspaper: “We can confirm that serious events occur at Solent Hotel and Spa.
We evacuate all guests from the hotel with firefighting service instructions and have worked with them throughout Night and continue to do it.
“The incident occurred on Monday night after a mixture of unintentional chemicals, which lead to the chlorine gas that escaped through ventilation.
Guests immediately showed signs of choking and a dangerous area response team from the South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) rushed to the place and provided breathing apparatus.
Some guests including children sent to the nearest hospital as precautions.
SCA said eight ambulance crew rushed to ventilated and eliminated toxic gas sources into open areas.
Speaking to the daily, a fire spokesman said: “A number of hotel guests have been overcome with smoke in the spa area after two chemicals accidentally mixed together and created chlorine gas.” “In total, 24 people were taken to the hospital by an ambulance crew.”
