The UK has approved the Covid-19 Pfizer pill for adults who have mild to moderate and high-risk infections to experience their disease, the second is easily given antivirus against the Coronavirus.
England scrambled to build his defense amid records of the new Covid-19 case record on Thursday, government data showed a surge in Covid-19 cases in winter such as the omicron variant spread quickly.
Based on data, pills, paxlovid, the most effective when taken during the initial stages of Covid-19, British drugs and the health product regulatory agency (MHRA) said on Friday, it recommended it used within five days of the first symptoms.
This month’s Pfizer said Paxlovid showed the efficacy of nearing 90% in preventing hospitalization and death in high-risk patients, and recent Lab data showed the drug maintaining its effectiveness of the omicron variant which spreads rapidly from the Coronavirus.
Mhra said she was working with Pfizer, which made one of the leading Covid-19 vaccines with Bionontech German partners, to track the effectiveness of Paxlovid against Omicron.
“We now have further antivirus drugs for Covid-19 treatment that can be taken by mouth rather than given intravenously.
This means it can be given outside the hospital settings,” said Mhra June Raine’s head in a statement.
Paxlovid is made of two active substances that come as two separate pills taken twice a day together for five days.
The UK has secured more than 2.75 million antivirus treatment courses.
Pfizer tablets are part of the drug class called protease inhibitors currently used to treat HIV, hepatitis C and other viruses, which work by stopping the virus from replication.
Rival Merck’s Covid-19 Pill was approved by England last month, but the drug only reduces hospitalization and death in its clinical trials of high-risk patients around 30%.
