London: England captain Harry Kane said his team’s experience to lose the World Cup semifinals three years ago helped withdraw them through a tense clash with Denmark to reach the final of the European Championship for the first time.
Kane scored the winning goal in extra time after his penalty was saved by Kasper Schmeichel to trigger a wild celebration scene in front of 64,950 fans at Wembley.
England had fallen back for the first time in the tournament when Mikkel Damsgaard fired a brilliant free kick to the upper corner.
But they immediately responded when Simon Kjaer could only turn into his own goal under pressure from Raheem Sterling.
“We say all this time, we can talk about how we have learned from 2018 but this is about doing it in the field,” Kane said.
“We remain calm, no panic.” This game is about character, digging and confidence.
This will only give us more trust on Sundays now.
“England will face Italy in Sunday’s final with a big house crowd on their side at Wembley.” This will be an amazing opportunity.
When the game is getting closer to the excitement and the nerves will kick, “Kane added.” It will be a special day, but we need to make sure we are on the side of victory.
“The winner’s penalty appeared in a counterroemial state as Raheem.
Sterling dropped inside the box under the minimum contact of Joakim Maehle.” I thought it was a penalty, “Kane said.” I think I must have a penalty in the second half too.
It might even be alone from the game.
