New Delhi: ‘Grinding out’ seems to be a faded art in the cricket test.
While ‘playing only to survive’ is no-no in the Indian camp, England, apparently, still finding out the best batting approach to fighting strong Indian attacks.
The second inning in Nottingham shows that British Batsmen has used an aggressive approach to consuming Indian bowling.
However, two days before the second test at Lord’s, Jonny Bairstow said the approach was not something emitted by England.
“Pitch dictate (approach).
It changed from the first innings.
There are several balls to be hit in the second half.
Not that we have decided that we will become very aggressive.
But more about just showing the intent and playing the strike as we did in the first round , When the condition is very difficult, “Bairstow said during media interactions on Tuesday.
“It’s hard to say ‘this is my approach, I can’t see too many changes from the last game’.
I haven’t played a lot of red ball cricket recently because of scheduling and everything like that.
If I continue the process and everything I do in the test First, then it is the type of approach I want to follow, “he added.
British batting, except Joe Root, has seen the sea for the past six months.
Lack of first grade cricket has not helped.
“If you play as much as redball cricket because scheduling, (that) will naturally impact.
There is a rhythm to hit in the cricket test,” Bairstow said.
Indian attacks, led by Jasprit Bumrah, have made them work overtime.
“Well, I can’t tell you all the discussions (about how they will play bumrah),” said Bairstow while discussing the challenges caused by Burrah.
“With the action, he (bumrah) varies on the fold where the shipping point is, and we all know too.
He only played 20 tests and six of them in England I guess.
So there will be times when bowlers adapt to change their skills sets In accordance with the conditions, “said Bairstow.
