Tokyo: Only 30 of the 376 British athletes at the Olympics who will participate in the opening ceremony of the game here on Friday due to Covid-19 concerns, media reports have stated.
“The United Kingdom athlete will stay away from the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Tokyo on Friday amid concerns about capturing Covid-19,” ‘The Times’ reported.
“The GB team usually expects around 200 athletes to attend the Curtain Raiser at the Olympic Stadium.
But moments understand that at least 30 athletes from the strong English team will be present.” England will name their flag carrier for the ceremony on Thursday.
The opening ceremony will be attended by less than 1,000 officials and no public audience will be permitted.
The game will advance even though it has health security problems in the middle of a pandemic.
The organizers have so far reported 75 Covid cases related to events, six athletes, of which four live in Games village.
