LONDON: The Covid-19 English mobile application will be tweaked so that fewer contacts from asymptomatic people who test the positive disease need their own isolation, the British health ministry said on Monday.
Business leaders have raised concerns about the number of staff who have to isolate themselves after “ping” by the application when they come into contact with someone who then tests the positive Covid-19.
Under change, if someone tests positive but does not show symptoms, the application will look for their close contact in two days before a positive test, rather than looking for positive contact in five days before the test.
The Ministry of Health said that changes will reduce the number of notifications sent by the application, but will not reduce application sensitivity, and will still capture the same high-risk contact number.
“We want to reduce disorders that self insulation can cause people and business, while ensuring that we protect them the most risky of this virus,” said Minister of Health Sajid Javid.
“This update to the application will help ensure that we are striking the right balance.” Prime Minister Boris Johnson has raised almost all the restrictions of Coronavirus in the UK, saying that the vaccine has largely violated the relationship between cases of Coronavirus and death, even if the key opening means the virus remains common in the community.
Some scientists objected to the popular “pingdemic” expression for disruption to the business of self-insulation suggestions from the application, saying minimizing public health benefits from self isolation when many other steps have been deleted.
The government urges people to continue using applications, which are not mandatory.
It is said that the contact that was previously notified to isolate itself in the old system could not have been exposed to positive people at the peak of their infection.
Further changes in the rules of self isolation will come on August 16, when people who are fully vaccinated and come into contact with positive cases do not need their own isolation unless they test positive.
