MANCHESTER (UK): Manchester City moved back to seconds in the Premier League after a 3-0-style victory over Everton at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday when the Pep Guardiola team responded by convincing Chelsea and Liverpool won with their class reminders.
Champions City dominated ownership from the start of the Everton team who struggled to get a footing in the game, but created several real openings in half an hour open.
Guardiola was left frustrated when a penalty was given after Raheem Sterling dropped under the challenge of Michael Keane but referee Stuart Attwell canceled his decision after reviewing the incident at a pitchide monitor.
Sterling did put City in front of a minute before the break, the house on foot after an extraordinary pass, was hit with the outside of his feet, with full back Joao Cancelo.
The Spanish midfielder Rodri made him 2-0 with a long struggling strike from more than 20 meters who whistled through Everton Guard Jordan Pickford.
Sterling missed a great opportunity to end the contest but the ball controlled the ball in front of the goal after a low cross from Riyad Mahrez.
Cole Palmer, the 19-year-old made his first Premier League start, has set Mahrez for the opportunity and it was a blocked shot that was stopped by Bernardo Silva who was calmly hollow third.
“We give the rhythm into our game, they defend very well, so inside on counterattack.
In general we control the game.
We play the game we have to play to defeat the team like Everton,” Guardiola said.
“When a team comes only to defend it will always be difficult and you have to be careful.
The quality of our players has made a difference,” he added.
Chelsea led the table at 29 points, with three points behind and Liverpool one further to third.
Everton Rafa Benitez won in six matches and 11 points 15 points.
