Chennai: Looking for free and fair elections, former Chief Minister Tamil Nadu and coordinator with AIADMK Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday urged the State Election Commission to hold polls in rural local bodies in nine districts in one phase.
In a letter to the Commissioner of the Election of V Palanikumar, the AIDMK leader said the behavior of elections in two phases would only provide opportunities for anti-social elements to infuse and create an atmosphere where voters would be intimidated to choose certain parties or not to give their voices .
“Selection in two phases for nine districts against logic.
This raises serious concerns that the ruling party will use illegal actions to bring unnecessary elements into the behavior of elections,” said Palaniswami, adding that the observer must be a member of the United States staff workers or from outside the country to ensure absolute neutrality.
Accepting an anti-social element will be used for canvas force, former cm demanding the installation of cameras and video recordings of all direct procedures of campaigns, voting, ballot security, vote count and declaration of results.
“It is also necessary that CCTV cameras are installed in each strong room and outside that cover the entrance to a strong room and the same thing is monitored 24/7 so that the legitimacy of the voice can be protected,” said Palaniswami.
He wants the CRPF or CISF unit deployed in a strong room.
More cameras must be installed to check forbidden liquid stockings.
The static supervision team must be deployed to inspect vehicles for liquor or cash, Nodal officers to oversee the party campaign and the increase in the number of flying teams to curb the distribution of money, he said.
No more than five people will be mandated for the door-to-door campaign.
Palaniswami said strict actions must be taken if the ruling party member, holding a government post, using official vehicles / assets for the campaign.
The Commission must limit the number of campaign days by a star campaigner and encourage the parties to campaign as far as possible.
The other demands are restrictions on convoy vehicles, routine monitoring of election expenditures, no abuse of school land and places of worship, restrictions of people attending campaigns with 100 in open space and 50 in limited space and more deployment of the number of CRPF / CISF personnel rather than state police.
