Chennai: Two weeks after two South Korean citizens continued to be detained by Tamil Nadu police, with per direction of the Supreme Court, fled the detention and was reported to have fled to South Korea using false documents, Madras High Court had ordered the CBI.
Investigate the incident.
Choi Yong Suk and Choe Jaewon, Implementing Director and General Manager of Chowel India Pvt Limited, were arrested for alleged GST violations against Rs Tones 40 Crore.
Arrested in 2019, the duo was sent in a central prison in Puzhal.
Then, given the guarantee given for their help, they nested in a stranger’s detention camp, Trichy.
Citing the Covid-19 outbreak, they transferred permits looking for a high court to nest in their own residence instead of the prisoner camp.
Even though HC refused their request, the Supreme Court gave them help.
They are also directed at paying monthly fees (around Rs 3 lakh per month) issued by the state to hold it in their residence.
Furthermore, the other FIR was registered against them based on complaints from their drivers that they tried to escape from the country using fake documents.
Catching arrests, Duo moved HC to seek anticipatory guarantee and to keep them in their residence if there was an arrest.
HC rejected the request that observed that foreign citizens who visited India were our guests, but the land law arrived at the protection of their lives and freedom only when they also comply with the law.
Meanwhile, Habeas Corpus petition was transferred by a duo who challenged their detention in the camp to hear on Monday before the bench of the Justice Division P n Prakash and Justice R Hemalata.
Advice for the Muniapparaj state told the court that the two defendants had fled the arrest of the house and were suspected that they had fled to South Korea through Manipur using fake documents.
Record submission, the bench directed the CBI to take over the investigation and submit an initial report on January 25, 2022.
