Mumbai: Mumbai police on Thursday took the prison prisoners of the Ejaz Lakdawala and Salim Maharaj’s aide in connection with the casing registered in D Nagar on the western outskirts, said an official.
The anti-extortion cell (AEC) of the crime branch took the custody of the Lakdawala and Maharaj from the Taloja central prison next to the Navi Mumbai, where they were submitted, according to the court order, he said.
A pine was registered at the Duo at the Police Station D N Nagar on December 17 on a complaint of a businessman, the official said.
According to complaints, Lakdawala allegedly called entrepreneurs using international telephone numbers in 2019 and demanded Rs 5 Crore from him, he said.
Lakdawala (51) threatened to kill the complainant and family members if the request of extortion was not fulfilled, the official said.
The second detention accused of being given to AEC at the command of the city court, where the police had submitted a re-appointment, he added.
Lakdawala, former Ajudan underworld Don Dawood Ibrahim, faced multiples of extortion cases, trying to murder and riots.
He was previously arrested by Mumbai police in January 2020.
