Brussels: Democratic standards in the European Union erode in several member countries, especially in Hungary and Poland where the independence of justice is under threat, the EU Executive Commission said Tuesday in the annual report on compliance with legal rules.
The report also chose Slovenia, who recently took over the presidency of the six-month European council round, due to an attack on the Balkan Crane media.
“There is a serious cause of concern in a number of member countries, especially when it comes to the judicial independence,” Vera Jourova said, vice president of commission for values and transparency.
Reviews, which in the second year was published a week after the UE punishment decided that how to discipline a high judge instead of the EU law and damage the independence of justice, told the government’s right-wing government to change it.
The European Commission has also begun legal action against Poland and Hungary for what the European Union executive arm is seen as a disrespect for the rights of LGBT people.
The broad audit found Polish flaws in four main areas reviewed: national justice system, anti-corruption framework, media freedom, and media balances.
According to the EU executive arm, the reform of the Polish justice system carried out over the past six years continues to increase the government’s influence on the justice system, damaging the independence of justice.
The report also shows the risk of “undue influence on prosecution of corruption for political purposes” and records a decrease in working conditions for journalists, “by using the judicial process that intimidates.” Hungary was criticized because of inadequate anti-corruption steps and the report noted that media pluralism “remained risky.” The report illustrates a gloomy media situation in Slovenia, reporting abuse and online threats to journalists.
The EU has repeatedly warned that democratic standards.
Being challenged in Hungary and Poland.
At the peak of June, European Union leaders clashed with Prime Minister Viktor Hungary on the new law that prohibits the appearance of LGBT problems to children in the country.
Come on EU executives are also condemned by the right-wing Prime Minister Slovenia, Janez Jansa, for a series of aggressive comments about journalists.
But EU criticism seems to have little effect.
After the ruling European court, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki refused as a “distinctive dispute.
Doctrine” and insisted that the UE court did not have authority to the formation of a justice system in individual member countries.
The purpose of this report is not to provide state sanctions.
To try to control the member countries they believe guilty, UE institutions can use what is called procedure Article 7, but the process launched against Poland and Hungary has not been conclusive so far.
EU parliamentarians had lost patience and threatened last month to demand the block executive if it failed to take action against countries suspected of violating democratic standards, especially Hungary and Poland.
They urged European Parliament President David Sassoli to demand that the European Commission “fulfill his obligations” within two weeks, under the system binding access to several European Union funds to the respect of the state of the rule of law.
This system was included in the EU-approved budget last year which included the period 2021-27 and which also included large-scale Coronavirus economic stimulus funds.
In March, the Poland and Hungarian right-wing government filed a complaint to the European Court to challenge him.
The two countries have submitted their plan to accept the EU EU recovery fund share to finance the recovery of 27 nations from the Coronavirus crisis, but the Commission has not agreed.
