Brussels: European Union countries have sent Covid-19 drugs and equipment to treat patients in Romania, which faces a surge in infection that is mostly among the majority of adult populations that are not vaccinated.
In the first ten days of October, one person had died of Covid-19 every six minutes in the country, but the vaccine skepticism remained high.
The European Commission said on Friday it had coordinated shipments to Romania of 250 oxygen concentrators, an important device to increase the supply of medical oxygen needed to treat critical-19 Covid-19 patients.
Poland sent 50 of 250 concentrators, while the rest came from the UE Stockpile.
The EU also coordinates the delivery of 5,200 bottles of monoclonal antibodies from Italy to Romania, commission words in press releases.
Monoclonal antibodies are experimental treatment for Covid-19 patients.
The EU will also coordinate the delivery of eight additional oxygen concentrators and 15 ventilators from Denmark.
Ventilators help with serious Covid-19 patients to breathe.
Only about a third of Romanian adult populations have received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine, according to the UE Public Data.
Official data earlier this week showed more than 70% of confirmed infections were in people who were not vaccinated, as well as 93% of deaths
