‘Even one dose VAX reduces the severity of infection, mortality’

Bengaluru: A study conducted by a leading private hospital in Bengaluru has found that the death rate among Covid-19 patients is much higher among people who don’t even take a dose of vaccines that do it against those who do it.
While the rates of 18.7% among individuals who were not vaccinated, it was 13.5% among those who took at least one dose of covishield or covaxin.
Significantly, there were no deaths among patients who had received a vaccine dose.
Post vaccination infection, or ‘breakthrough infection, shows the possibility that vaccines may not fully function.
But the benefits of inoculation can expand to this group too.
To see this aspect, Apollo Super Hospitals, Jayanagar, Bengaluru, studied patients with breakthrough infections, focusing on the impact of death vaccination and the severity of the disease.
This research includes 500 first patients with moderate to severe Covid acknowledging between April 21 to May 30.
Of the 500 patients, 320 (64%) were men.
The average age is 52.5 years.
While 256 (51.2%) patients have at least one comorbidity, 37.5% and 30.5% of each suffer from diabetes mellitus and hypertension.
While 148 patients (29.6%) took at least one dose of vaccines before being hospitalized, 14 (9.5%) of them had received both doses.
Most of them, 124 (84%) have received a covishield while 24 (16%) the rest has taken Covaxin.
The average time of the first dose to hospitalization is 25 days (1 to 150 days).
The average time of the second dose to receipt is 18 days (2 to 51 days) – enough time for vaccine immunity to kick in.
Of the 148s that took a dose, 105 (71%) had diabetes or hypertension or both.
“The two Indian Covishield and Covaxin vaccines have a significant impact on reducing disease severity, inflammatory markers, the need for respiratory support and trends towards lower death,” said the report.
Apart from greater comorbidity (71%) among vaccinated patients compared to patients who were not vaccinated (53.5%), the severity of the covid trends and mortality was clearly less among those who took shots.
Of the 80 cohort patients who landed in the ICU, the majority (61) were not vaccinated by 19 vaccinated with at least one dose.
Of the 352 patients who were not vaccinated, 66 (18.7%) died, and among those who were vaccinated 148, 20 (13.5%) died.
This study was conducted by doctor Sameer Bansal, Vikyath Sathish, Amoghaavarsha V, Kalpakam Hariprasad and Ravindra M Mehta from the Critical Care Department and Pulmonology.
It began on April 21, when the hospital began to take in Covid patients during the second wave.
The hospital has begun to record the vaccination status of all his patients during the second wave and has now published this preliminary study.
This study has been submitted to the journal for publication.
“According to this research, after even a single vaccination dose, the severity of lower diseases and trends to reduce mortality is seen even though people who are vaccinated have more risk factors such as the average age and comorbidity,” said Dr.
Mehta, who pioneered learning , While the urge for two doses is a necessity, given the problem of significant availability at this time, research shows that there is a significant advantage with even a single dose vaccine.
“Further studies with greater amounts are needed to clarify the benefits of mortality,” the report said.
The researchers concluded that despite the breakthrough infection was possible, vaccination the impact of the severity of the disease despite hospitalization for Pneumonia Covid-19.
In short, even if vaccination people are accepted, the severity of their disease decreases significantly, an important message to be given to encourage vaccination, the doctors said.
