Guwahati: Police in Guwahati on Monday arrested an employee of the Excise Ministry for allegedly taking bribes of Rs 5,000 from a woman to improve the promise with the Chairman of the Minister of Himanta Buswa Sarma.
The case below section 384 IPC has been registered against the defendant, Bhupen Hazarika, at the police station.
The defendant has been sent to durable.
The incident was revealed after Sumit Deb, personal secretary for Bimal Bimian minister, acquainted with the incident and filed FIR on Sunday night.
“The woman said her husband, who was the fourth grade employee of the city planning authority, was broken, had not received his salary for the past 36 months.
For this, he came to Guwahati to meet CM,” said a police officer.
“He met the defendant in Janata Bhawan on August 3 and the defendant was convinced that he could arrange the appointment with CM on August 4 and demanded RS 5,000 from the woman,” he added.
