Kolkata: The battery leader of the battery breaker industry wants to set up the first lithium ion battery cell manufacturing facility in India called the advanced cell chemical project or ACC.
This might be looking for JV for facilities and will make a last call after exiting the fine mold incentive scheme related to the production (pli) by the central government.
This was revealed by MD Subir Chakraborty after the company’s GMS.
It will be an addition to the lithium ion battery facilities arranged by the company in Gujarat in collaboration with Leclanche called EXIDE LECLANCHE ENERGY.
However, existing facilities do not produce lithium ion cells and it is more an assembly unit.
The company has so far invested RS 232 Crore in the Gujarat project.
This center had previously approved the PLI RS 18,100crore scheme to build the Tesla style Giga factory to produce batteries.
The plan is to regulate the production capacity of 50 Gihwatt hours (GWH) for sophisticated chemical cell batteries by attracting an investment worth 45,000 crore rs, according to the government.
One GWh (1,000 megawatt) the battery capacity is enough to power one million homes for one hour and around 30,000 electric cars.
“At this fiscal end, we will receive a call on the lithium ion cell unit,” MD Exide said.
He also did not rule out the possibility of forming JV with foreign partners, who had technical knowledge.
He also indicates that large investments are needed for these projects.
“The number ball park for such a project is $ 100 million per hour watt giga.
We can say 1 GWh is not a proper project so that someone can understand the investment,” he added.
Outlining exports, MD Exide said that the export component gradually occupies a portion of higher turns in the coming years.
Now, it is 8% of turnover.
Chakraborty said that Exide is now exporting to 50 countries including the UAE and the rest in Southeast Asia, Europe and the US.
He also explained that Exide was a debt-free company for the past 10 years and would remain so.
