MUMBAI: The cyber authorities at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) has detained a 47-year-old aspiring performer for supposedly heralded as a casting director and duping over 80 individuals of about Rs 2 crore by promising to provide a break for their small children in the amusement industry considering 2017.
The accused, Apurva Ashwin Dowda, with an MBA degree in a US college and can be enrolled with CINTAA and Writer’s Association, has been a repeat offender.
He conducted fake sites with promotions casting for movies, television and advertisements, said the authorities.
Dowda has showcased in a couple of advertisements.
Cyber authorities apprehended Dowda if he came Khallapur Toll about the Mumbai-Pune Expessway on June 10.
He had been residing in a 3,500 sq foot rental apartment in Pune, said that the authorities.
Dowda supposedly told cops he duped individuals to launch his film’Trance’ which he’s already spent Rs 25 lakh on launching commercials.
He had been detained according to a criticism of Borivli resident Mahesh Gupta (47), that conducts an aircraft spare parts company.
Gupta said he watched a casting deal for kids for a movie’Bacho Ki Duniya’ on social networking and chose to sign his daughter.
Gupta explained,”I moved about Rs 33 lakh through various bank account.” But he got suspicious if Dowaa retained demanding more cash and lodged a complaint.
Joint commissioner of police (crime) Milind Bharambe supervised said DCP (cyber) Rashmi Karandikar who headed the group inspectors Mangesh Majgar, Pramod Khoppikar and cyber detection team –who chased Dowda throughout the nation prior to nabbing him Mumbai-Pune Expressway, with the support of state traffic authorities.
“Though Dowda is exceptionally capable, he’d up crime to make quick cash,” explained Karandikar.
“Our group was looking for him for the past six weeks.
He’d live on lease in luxury apartments for barely a month or 2 so that nobody will track him.
We regained nine phones using 40 SIMS (some global SIMs), nine banking account, several passports, along with an international driving permit.” The authorities have recovered a lot of Gupta’s cash.
The authorities said Dowda was detained a couple of years back for a similar offence spent some time at Arthur Road prison in 2010.
He’s got past similar cases against him in police stations in Sakinaka, Oshiwara, Amboli, NM Joshi Marg and Dadar.
