Experts see diabetes and link gain weight

Bengaluru: A recent study published in Diabetes and Lancet Endocrinology shows that many covid-induced locking in the UK causes people under 40 years to gain weight, which makes them at high risk of developing type 2.
Research Community Members for Diabetes Studies In India (RSSDI) said the situation in India was no different.
Those who suffer from type 2 diabetes suffer from insulin resistance – where the body produces insulin but cannot use it effectively – leads to increased blood sugar levels.
In the campaign to spread consciousness, RSSDI will regulate mass blood sugar testing programs on September 29 throughout the country.
RSSDI members will conduct General Random Blood Sugar (GRBS) tests.
Dr.
Manohar KN, Secretary, RSSDI Karnataka, said weight gain, especially among young professionals working from home, has placed them at a higher risk of developing type 2.
“Pandemic can be ‘twindemic’ because it can trigger obesity and diabetes , “said Dr.
Manohar.
He said Covid-19 can directly trigger diabetes to someone with risk factors because the virus can cause income or inflammation of the endocrine tissue in the pancreas which regulates glucose levels.
“Indirectly, it can cause an increase in diabetes through obesity because of the lifestyle that settled and work from the home scenario,” said Dr.
Manohar.
While concurring, Dr.
Vijay Kumar K, a doctor and diabetologist and a member of the Diabetology and members of the RSSDI, said that even though there was no research conducted in India for the impact of Covid-19 in obesity and diabetes, there was a weight of 3 to 8%.
Get among young professionals who work.
“What triggers the problem works on a smart screen and chew at the same time,” Dr.
Kumar said.
“Many professionals who work from home say they don’t have time to exercise.
Sitting is a new smoking.” Dr.
Kumar said the pandemic could trigger health problems in three ways.
“First, the number of those who tend to experience diabetes has increased when young workers’ professionals have gained weight.
This is because it works from a residential home scenario and lifestyle.
Second, those who suffer from diabetes who are not diagnosed now need regular maintenance.” Lack of drugs – In the third way, he said, is that there has been a surge in uncontrolled diabetes cases.
This is because during the early phase of national locking in 2020, some insulin products and drugs for diabetes are not available.
The interim report released on September 5 on the ongoing mainstay health assessment survey conducted by the BBMP to understand the burden of comorbidity in the population of the city, showing that almost 51% of respondents suffered from diabetes.
RSSDI members said they were the GRBS microplanning test which will be carried out in the state, and the test will be free of charge for all.
“If high sugar levels are detected, the doctor will follow up with the person for further treatment.
The aim is to promote diabetes detection that is not diagnosed and quickly started treatment,” said Dr.
Manohar.
