BARCELONA: Yamaha’s world championship leader Fabio Quartararo maintained his fifth straight pole position of the MotoGP season after moving quickest in qualifying in the Catalunya Grand Prix on Saturday.
Quartararo became the first driver in seven decades to accomplish the effort, and the Frenchman is connected to the front row by Ducati’s Jack Miller and Pramac Racing’s Johann Zarco.
Quartararo appeared to go quicker on another run using another tyre plan and had been frustrated after yellow flags were found in the conclusion of the session after a fall by Miller and Pol Espargaro’s crash.
“The speed was great on moderate and difficult (tyres), I had a wonderful first run but that I believed the lap wasn’t great,” Quartararo stated.
“On the next run I ready extremely well with the back tyre however I (struck ) yellow flags.
However, the most significant is we’re on the front in P1.” Red Bull KTM’s Miguel Oliveira begins fourth on the grid together with Petronas Yamaha’s Franco Morbidelli, although Quartararo’s team partner Maverick Vinales begins in sixth.
Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia, who’s third in the tournament standings, needed his lap struck when he surpassed track limitations and he’ll start ninth on the grid.
Suzuki’s defending winner Joan Mir couldn’t complete his final run due to the yellow flags and that he begins 10th, before Valentino Rossi who dropped early in Q2.
Mir’s team mate Alex Rins isn’t racing after maintaining a wrist fracture which required surgery on Friday.
He’s expected to come back for the German Grand Prix in two weeks.
Formerly, six-times world winner Marc Marquez didn’t make up for Q2, completing third quickest in the semester to make 13th position on the grid.
Marquez appeared to gain out of a tow by drifting Miller’s slipstream at Q1.
Even though Miller set the quickest time, it had been Marquez’s Repsol Honda team partner Espargaro who travelled second quickest to be eligible for Q2.
