Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced that the Khel Ratna award will now be called the Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award.
This award was previously named after former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

The Khel Ratna award is the highest sports honor in the country.
It was officially known as Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in sports and games.
Dhyan Chand is widely regarded as the largest player in the biggest hockey and sportsman ever produced by India.
In his career which stretched from 1926 to 1949, he won the Olympic medal in 1928, 1932 and 1936.
