Dharwad: ‘Modi’ is a medieval script which is a really language medley, contains like Marathi, Parsi, Arabic and Kannada words.
The script began to use when Dharwad, Vijayapura, Bataghiavi and Uttara Kannada, were under the rule of Peshwas of Pune.
However, the script continued to be used for centuries after the area fainted from Fiefdom Peshwas, and many records related to property were written in Modi scripts.
