KABUL: Taliban calls the US and other countries on Saturday to recognize their government in Afghanistan, saying that failure to do so and sustainable freezing from Afghan funds abroad will cause problems not only for the country but for the world.
No country officially recognizes the Taliban government, while billions of dollars in Afghan assets and funds abroad has also been frozen.
“Our message to America is, if it is not recognized continuing, the Afghanistan problem continues, it is a matter of region and can turn into a problem for the world,” Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid.
He said the reason Taliban and US went to war last time because both of them did not have a formal diplomatic bond.
“Problems that cause war, they can be resolved through negotiations,” Mujahid said.
Meanwhile, the US government supervisor on Friday accused the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Pentagon suppressed information about the collapse of the former Government and Military Afghanistan.
“The complete picture of what happens in August will only be revealed if information that the Department of Defense and the State has been restricted from the public is available,” said John Sopko, Special Inspector General for Afghan Reconstruction (Sigar).
A spokesman for the State Department said Sigar had the authority to recover reports.
