Chandigarh: More people have died in this region because of consumption of fake liquor than drug overdoses, showing data compiled by the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) in his report ‘unintentional death and suicide in India-2020’.
As many as 931 incidents of consumption of forbidden / fake liquor caused 947 deaths in the country during 2020.
Of this number, 133 deaths – the third highest in the country – reported in Punjab.
In the state of Himachal Pradesh, 43 people were killed in accidents caused after consumption of illegal liquor.
Overdose of drugs claiming 34 lives in Punjab, while 10 people at Himachal Pradesh and seven in Haryana died of overdose.
According to the report, driving under the influence of drugs / alcohol contributed to 2.3% of the total accident, which caused injury to 6,974 people and 3,026 deaths in this country.
From this death, the seventh highest in the country – reported in Punjab, 44 in Himachal Pradesh, and 23 in Haryana.
Narcotics abuse and alcohol addiction are the reasons behind suicide by 72 people in Punjab, 57 in Haryana and 13 in Himachal.
During the past year, 3,54,796 accidents on the road caused 1.33.201 death and injury at 3,35,050 people in this country.
Contrary to the national trend, the accident on the road causes more death than injury in Punjab.
In accordance with data, in Punjab, 5,173 accidents on the road caused 3,916 deaths and injuries at 2,881 people.
In Haryana, 7,627 people suffered injured in 9,506 accidents, while 4,631 lost their lives.
At Himachal Pradesh, 2,235 accidents claimed 864 lives and injured 3,208 people.
The maximum death of 108 on the freeway was reported in Haryana and 20 in Punjab.
A total of 1,489 deaths were reported on national highways and 976 on the state highway in Haryana.
In Punjab, 1,409 people died in accidents on national highways and 940 on the state highway.
In Himachal, 356 deaths on the road were reported on national highways and 123 on the state highway.
A total of 913 deaths were reported because of poisoning in Punjab, 893 in Haryana and 257 in Himachal Pradesh.
Incidental insecticide / pesticides claimed 702 lives in Punjab, 622 in Haryana and 94 in Himachal.
Different accidental mortality rates – the power of nature, traffic accidents, road accidents, train accidents, crossroads accidents and other causes – in Haryana were recorded at 50.8, the fourth highest in the country against the national average of 27, 7.
In Himachal, an unintentional death rate was 37.4 and 31.7 in Punjab.
