New Delhi: The police have broken down the fake call center on the West Delhi Nagar Day and arrested 65 people suspected of being disguised as US government officials and postponed citizens based in the US with the pretext of suspension of their social security number.
According to the police, two call center owners, Lakhan Jagwani and Vijender Singh Rawatt, who were also arrested, bought the details of the US population using illegal techniques and extorted money from them on behalf of punishment.
Urvija Goel, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), said, “The total number of deceived amounts is estimated to be in Crores.
They cheated on US citizens by disguising themselves as officials of the Customs and US Border Protection Department, Drug Enforcement Agency, Sheriff, FBI and Treasury Office US.
They extorted money from foreign victims on behalf of saving them from legal action and arrest.
On Wednesday, the police team carried out an attack on the call center on Nagar Day where many people were involved in making and receiving international calls.
“This type of fraud is usually Starting with Robocall who threatened pre-records who claimed to have come from the US Law Department and told foreigners that “Your SSN will be immediately suspended” and to save themselves from legal action, the person is persuaded to connect through pressing 1 on IVR.
When people press 1 on IVR, the call is connected to one of the telecallers sitting in a fake call center.
Telecaller disguised as US government officials and told innocent foreigners that the parcel containing drugs aimed at the name of the victim had been confiscated by the Customs Department and US border protection.
To save himself from ‘legal action’, the victim was then told to immediately transfer all of their bank balance to the e-gift cards.
They were told that their money would be returned later by the government.
Because the numbers used are false VoIP numbers, the complainant cannot call back or the numbers can be tracked.
