Family members cover victims of lightning strikes with cow dung, mud

Dumka: In the actions of superstition, a family member of a 18-year-old girl, who died after a lightning strike on Monday, made her body covered with mud and cow dung for hours to live back.
The incident occurred in Daldali Village under the Gopewandar police station when Alijabeth Murmu was shocked by lightning on Monday night while returning from the field after sowing rice.
The police have difficulty convincing family members to let the body’s corpse post.
Only on Tuesday that Post Mortem was carried out and the body was handed over to the family for the last ceremony.
According to sources, other villagers, Hopni Murmu (45), who with the girl were also injured when lightning hit.
Hopni is undergoing treatment at the Government Health Center.
Alijabeth’s family member, who died in that place, applied a layer of mud and cow dung and waiting for him to live back.
After the police learned about the incident, they went to the village to take the body to post Mortem but faced resistance.
On late at night, they finally managed to convince them and sent the body to post mortem.
Gopikandar Police Station Officer – Bandi Tas Responsible said, “Family members waited a few hours after applying the thick layer of mixture because of their superstition.
We, somehow, managed to convince them later and took the body for Post Mortem.”
