New Delhi: A 31-year-old woman suffering from heart failure gets a new lease after the heart of a woman who was declared dead brain in Vadodara was flown to the Institute of Asian Medical Sciences, Faridabad and transplanted into it.
Surgery was carried out by a team of doctors led by the Chief of the Heart Surgeon Dr.
Amit Chaudhary, said the hospital.
In a press release issued on Friday, the hospital said the recipient of the heart, which was a Kanpur population at Uttar Pradesh, had suffered shortness of breath for the past four years.
“The test carried out by us confirmed he suffered from heart failure.
His heart function was found only 14% as about normal around 70%, which resulted in shortness of breath while doing a simple daily task,” added the hospital.
According to Dr.
NK Pandey, Chair and Managing Director of Asian hospitals, for patients like that, the only choice is to go for a heart transplant.
The 31-year-old woman, said the doctor, was registered with the hospital recipient registry hospital almost three months ago.
Recently, they received a call from Vadodara about the availability of donors.
Dr.
Chaudhary said the organ was appointed by a rented plane from Vadodara and flew to the Asian hospital, Faridabad.
“Heart transplants take almost five hours.
Patients are stable and recover well,” said the heart surgeon, added that the 31-year-old will be able to live a normal life without complications.
