Coimbatore: A 74-year-old Avinashi resident has been detained on Tuesday for poisoning 21 peafowls into death.
The Tirupur woods division named the accused as Rangasamy, a parasite that was parasitic.
Informants in Merkupathi village had alerted the section concerning the carcasses located within an agricultural property from Eachampallam on Saturday.
Postmortem demonstrated the birds had swallowed insecticide-laced groundnuts.
Nearby farmers informed the officials who Rangasamy was behind the poisoning.
“Rangasamy reported an insecticide was sprayed groundnuts and plants to keep insects away and to not kill peafowls.
However, his acquaintances said that he made it to destroy peafowls, which had ruined his plants” said an exploring officer.
Rangasamy was reserved under the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 and has been remanded in custody.
