Chandigarh: Minister of Haryana Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has defended police actions against farmers’ protests in Karnal, said the guarantee of peace protests was given, but the stones were thrown at the highway and the highway was blocked.
About 10 people were injured on Saturday because the police allegedly made a group of farmers disturb the traffic movement on the national highway while heading towards the BJP meeting.
Speaking with reporters in Karnal on Saturday night after the meeting, Khattar said the farmers who protested previously convinced the government that their protest would be peaceful.
“If they have to protest, they should do it in a peaceful way, no one objected to it.
They previously convinced that they would hold peaceful protests.
But if they throw stones at the police, the highway block, the police will take steps to Maintaining law and order, “Khattar said.
Referring to the BJP meeting in Karnal, Khattar said it was a country-level meeting from the party and “I condemned the call they were (farmer clothing) had given it to oppose it.” “Inhibits any organizational function, because of any reason, it itself is anti-democratic,” he added.
The Director General of Police Additional Haryana (Law and order) Navdeep Singh Vird previously said that only four protesters were injured, while ten police were injured in the incident.
He said several protesters pelted the police to the police and tried to attack them.
Karnal Police IG Mamta Singh said, “We use light strength because they block the highway.
Some stones are also thrown towards the police.
Light strength is used to dissolve the protesters”.
Meanwhile, the leader of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Rakesh Tikait on Sunday met with several injured protesters in hospitals in Karnal and condemned “brutal laharge” by the police.
Tikait said the conspiracy to attack farmers in Karnal clearly from the “commandment of the task judge, who ordered the police to destroy the head of the farmer and attacked them with a stick”.
“The government uses Lathis to suppress the sound of farmers, but it’s wrong,” said Tikait.
Head of Haryana BKU (Chaduni) Gurnam Singh Chaduni said the farmer’s clothing meeting would be held at Karnal on Monday to discuss future actions after alleged lathicharge.
To protest the incident of Lathicharge, he said a call for road blockade until Saturday night and added further courses would be decided on Monday.
Farmers who protest central agricultural law have opposed the BJP-JJP public function to join Haryana.
Some farmers have gathered at Bastara Toll Plaza near Karnal, responding to the call given by BKU.
The use of power by the police has invited severe criticism from opposition parties.
