‘Farmers must benefit from plant insurance’

Chandigarh: Former Minister of Haryana and opposition leader in the State Assembly, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, on Friday urged the government once more to find a positive solution for farmer agitation.
He said that farmers were far from their homes and their families for the past 11 months and have been sitting in Dharnas on the Delhi border and other states.
“The demands of farmers are fully justified but the government is not ready to change the stands that are adamant.
The government must restart dialogue without delay, step forward in national interests and to respect those who feed the nation.
In the democratic system, people are the most important and Every dead end can only be resolved through dialogue, “Hood said.
He said that farmers in the country faced the apathetic burden of the BJP-JJP government at each level.
“Today, farmers must move from the pillar to post dap fertilizer.
The farmers do not get enough fertilizer even after waiting in a long queue for several days and hours, even under the protection of the police.
Sowing the next harvest season is increasingly delayed because of this, “He said.
Hooda said the government was unable to give fertilizer to farmers when sowing also did not provide MSP to farmers at the time of sale.
“A large number of farmers are deprived of MSP because of the delay in the procurement of rice and non-lifting.
On the other hand, the government refuses to buy millet.
The government wants to gradually get rid of MSP and Bhavantar Bharpayee Yojana, which has been submitted to millet farmers, has proven to fail a total,” he said .
“The farmer was beaten from all sides because of the culture and apathetic attitude of the government and said farmers also had to be satisfied with inflation, weather and government policy.
These farmers suffer today,” he said.
Hooda said every season added a new chapter with the failure of a government plant insurance scheme.
“Farmers face weather wraths for several consecutive seasons but there is no compensation given to them by the insurance company and the government.
In this Kharif season, around 60,000 complaints of damage to plants reach the government but losses for farmers are not compensated.
It is clear that the government scheme is only limited On paper and many schemes have been completely closed by the government, “he said.
Speaking of livestock insurance schemes, Hood its government has started an insurance scheme in a nominal cost to motivate farmers for livestock insurance, but now the government has left livestock farms to the mercy of private companies.
“The government only collects Hospital 100 for livestock insurance but a private company is now burdening RS 3,000.
Farmers must be given the benefits of government insurance as before but they also have to get compensation for plant damage under plant insurance schemes by carrying out special girdawari as soon as possible,” the demands.
