Coimbatore: A 63-year-old farmer was trampled to death by wild elephants in his farm field near Boluvampatti in Coimbatore Regency in Tamil Nadu in the early hours of Friday.
The deceased has been identified as R Chinnasamy from Victory Viraliyur.
He has a farm field near the hill.
He used to go to his farm field at night because wild animals often damage plants.
On Thursday night, he slept in a bed in the farm field when a wild elephant attacked him.
He suffered injuries on his chest and his right leg.
Frontline staff Department of Forest received information about elephant attacks and rushed to the place.
They took Chinnasamy to the ThondaMuthur government hospital where the doctor said he died on arrival.
Then, the corpse was sent to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital for Postmortem.
The Department of Forest officials said that the attack might occur around 1:30 a.m.
The Ministry of Forestry submits Rs 50,000 as a direct compensation for the victim’s family.
The rest of the RS 3.5 Lakh will be submitted to the family soon.
