New Delhi: Fast and affordable justice delivery is “legitimate expectations” of different state organs to have collective responsibility to ensure this, said Rijiju Kiren Law Minister on Saturday.
The Minister of Law, while speaking at the launch of the Legal Awareness Campaign and Indian Pan outreach ‘from the National Law Service Authority (NALSA), also emphasized the need to strengthen the legal education system in this country.
President of RAM Nath Kovind and Chairman of India Judge NV Ramana was also present at the launch of the campaign.
“I want to remind us of all that fast and affordable justice delivery is legitimate expectations of the people and is a collective responsibility of various state organs,” said the Minister, added that it was important that all stakeholders worked together to “send this mandate”.
Rijiju said that access to justice has been recognized as an integral part of the legal framework that is prescribed based on the constitution and to achieve and realize this vision, better collaboration between legal service authorities, various government and judicial departments will be needed.
He also said efforts must be made to ensure that mediation into the preferred mode determines commercial disputes because this will reduce the burden in court and bring investment in the country, which leads to the ease of doing business and ease of life.
“In this case you have to limit the delay to a minimum and mediation must be the preferred mode for litigation for commercial disputes, and this will not only reduce the court burden but also increase the confidence in the Indian legal system so that more investment can be withdrawn,” he said.
Efforts must be made to strengthen legal education, and universities and universities have severe responsibility on their shoulders in this matter, said Rijiju, adding that “law students today are lawyers and judges tomorrow”.
The Union Minister said that the quality of education and training of law students will contribute to their success in the future and uphold legal supremacy.
He said “legal illiterate” was one of the obstacles for those who were not aware of their rights based on the law and scheme of the welfare of the central and state government and this blocked rapid justice.
He said that contact with the Justice system could be a challenging experience for many people because of its complexity.
“For the poor and marginalized groups, the justice system can be difficult to understand and navigate due to various obstacles such as the lack of financial resources, awareness due to local language command, and long distance to achieve legal service providers,” Rijju said.
He said that legal assistance was the only way for these people to overcome obstacles and praise Nalsa and the state’s legal authority to carry out the role that should be exemplary in bringing justice to the residents’ threshold.
The Minister said the legal service authority made people realize their rights and duties in various laws and schemes related to children, workers, SC-ST, people who suffered disabilities.
“Legal service authorities touch the life of disaster victims, victims of trade, acid attacks, sexual exploitation.
Each scheme is a testimony of the fact that our legal service authorities are committed to helping disadvantaged people in realizing their legal rights and building safe .

He said that more than 90 lakh people have so far been facilitated by legal service authorities in accessing their needs for food, medicine, and shelter.
