Ivermectin, anti-parasite drugs commonly used for livestock, should not be taken to treat or prevent covid-19, said food and drug administration on Saturday.
The warning happened a day after the state health department of Mississippi issued a similar statement in response to reports that the increasing number of people in Mississippi uses drugs to prevent covid infection.
Several studies last year encouraged the use of drugs against Covid-19, especially in Latin America, and Fox News has promoted several studies in the air.
But the National Institutes of Health said in February that most studies related to Ivermectin and Coronavirus “have incomplete information and significant methodological limitations,” including small sample size and the size of the study results that are often unclear.
At Mississippi, where only 37% of the population were entirely vaccinated, more than two-thirds of the recent calls were placed to the state poison control center related to “livestock consumption or animal formulation from the ivermectin purchased at the Center for Livestock Supply,” Country The Ministry of Health said in the news release.
From those who call to swallow ivermectin, 85% have mild symptoms and one person told to “seek further evaluation” because of the large number reported, said the state health department.
Overmectin, which is also formulated for use by people to treat parasite worms, has been promoted controversially as previous Covid treatment potential in pandemic, but the latest research found that the efficacy of the drug against the thin Coronavirus, and the FDA has not agreed to the drug.
On Twitter, the FDA is more declarative in the warning.
“You’re not a horse,” said the agency.
“You are not a cow.
Seriously, you.
Stop it.” The FDA said that he had received reports of people who had “needed medical support and were hospitalized after treating themselves with ivermectin aimed at horses.”
