Fear of Rain, Locals Park Cars On Flyover in Chennai

Chennai: With the Nagar region inundated for more than a week because of continuous rain, the population has begun to park their vehicles on the G n chetty flyover.
Residents say that even if it rains for one hour, they park their vehicles on the flyover to avoid risk.
Police said some of them parked their vehicles the night before immediately after checking the estimate.
It has also slowed down the traffic on stretches.
Residents also use Velachhery flyover as their parking lot for cars and two-wheeled cars, hoping to save vehicles from rain damage.
“It’s not even like 2015.
This time our area is truly flooded.
Our vehicle is submerged in water.
My brother’s car cannot be repaired.
We must continue to spend a lot to repair the vehicle,” said Sridhar, a resident of Nagar.
“This water level is scary.
We don’t want to risk and park our car here, the residents said.
The vehicle has been parked on the bridge in a long queue since Sunday morning.
The other residents of Sadasivam Street said,” We cannot spend the night without Sleep thinking of rain and our car.
I lost hope that water will recede.
Instead, it’s better to park here.
“The police said that the inhabitants parked their cars because of fear and this would last until the rain ended.” We did not stop them as long as it did not affect traffic.
But some of them even struggled for the room, “said a traffic official.
