Mangaluru: A mangaluru resident has raised his house base with almost three feet using 200 jacks to save him from the flood this year.
Some Mangaluru areas suffer from floods at the height of the rainy season due to clogged storm waterways.
Suresh Udupa Malemar thought he was enough.
Residents in Kottara Chowki, Malemar, Maladi and surrounding areas have become victims of these artificial floods every year.
Suresh has raised 1,000 sqft houses using more than 200 jacks.
The company based in Uttar Pradesh was chosen for the work, said Suresh to Ti.
“The house has been picked up with three feet by giving a base beam that was elevated to the foundation.
The work began on December 9 and was in the final stage now.
The contractor has managed to lift the house without causing cracks to walls, pillars, ceilings, furniture, and equipment Electricity, “Suresh, who is a retired banker, said.
“Twelve workers have completed work for Rs 250 per square contract,” he said.
Suresh built his house about 20 years ago.
“We suffered losses due to flooding in recent years.
Even the waste of underground drainage enters houses in this area.
There is no provision for storm water flowing as a large drain in the area has not been properly folded.
The accumulation of mud in stormwater waterways cause artificial flooding during the rainy season, “he said.
He also blamed lonely construction on national highways for flooding.
